Tavaziva is looking for two experienced male dance artists with strong ballet and contemporary techniques for the creation and touring of Bawren’s new production IZINDAVA. Applicants must be available for rehearsals in London and to tour throughout autumn 2017 and spring 2018 (see dates below).

Tavaziva is an acclaimed contemporary-African touring dance company established in 2004 and led by Zimbabwean-born Bawren Tavaziva. His unique style is a choreographic synthesis of ballet, contemporary and African dance.

The contract will be offered on a freelance basis with a weekly fee for rehearsals and a per performance fee during touring.

Tavaziva is an acclaimed company touring work by its founder and artistic director, Zimbabwean-born, Bawren Tavaziva whose style uniquely synthesises African, ballet and contemporary dance.  Dynamic, bold, risk-taking and beautiful, the work is popular with venues and audiences.

Working in a small and busy team, the Company Manager is the first point of contact for all enquiries to the Company and is responsible for the day-to-day running of the Company and its operations in accordance within the aims and objectives of Tavaziva, the logistics of the touring productions and the planned programmes and activities.

This year Tavaziva will be creating and touring a new production as well as delivering a range of learning and participation programmes.

If you are a highly organised arts manager with a systematic yet understanding approach to running a small and adventurous dance company, we want to hear from you.

Although this is intended as a full time position, Tavaziva is open to hearing from candidates with proposals for part-time working arrangements or with specific expertise suited to delivering areas of the role in a freelance capacity.

 

Appointment:  Full time, 12 month maternity cover contract

Salary:  £28,000 pa pro rata

Reporting to: Executive Director and Artistic Director

Holiday entitlement: 25 days plus bank holidays per year

Office hours: 10am-6pm. Evening and weekend work may be required at times. Overtime is not paid but discretionary TOIL is offered.

Join us for a intensive two-day professional programme of classes and choreography with Bawren Tavaziva.

Venue: The Place WC1H 9PY

Cost: £80 (early bird £65 before 6 May 2016)

Ziva Youth dance is offering young people the chance to work with Tavaziva’s professional dancers to create a unique African-Contemporary dance piece to be performed at Lift Off Dance Festival and Leyton Orient Football stadium this April.

Tavaziva’s Artist Development Day will include two sessions; safer dance practice in a teaching setting, and how to create and deliver workshops around a touring production.

9am-12pm: Erin Sanchez, One Dance UK

This session will provide an introduction to key aspects of dance medicine and science in practice. During the session, we will cover:

  • Adaptation and safe practice for teaching adolescents, children, and elderly populations
  • Best practice regarding physiological and psychological aspects of dance participation (including key information on environment, sequencing and progression of movements, warm up and cool down and rest)
  • An overview of common dance injuries, injury care specific to dance and return to dance after injury.
  • Dance UK’s information sheet about First Aid for Dance will also be reviewed and discussed.

 

1pm-4pm: Jeanefer Jean-Charles

Jeanefer Jean-Charles is a Choreographer, Mass Movement Director and Creative Consultant with over 30 years’ experience of devising, creating, facilitating and directing dance and movement for performance. This session will explore how to create and deliver both one-off workshops and intensive workshop residencies.

Using Tavaziva’s production Africarmen as a starting point it will explore:

  • How to structure workshops to reflect a company’s work.
  • How to approach the themes and issues in a production, making them accessible and adaptable for different workshop groups.
  • Working with participants with different levels of dance experience and mixed abilities

Southbank Centre commissioned Tavaziva to make a sensational outdoor performance to celebrate the life and work of Nelson Mandela and his legacy of kindness.
