Our Journeying Between project, in partnership with Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and Caius House Youth Centre in Battersea took place over the Easter holiday. Tavaziva is working with a group of young people who are exploring dance and music-making with industry professionals.
This free project for 11-18 year olds looks at the process of creating, marketing and performing their own work and culminates in a performance at RAD as a part of Wandsworth Arts Fringe on 7th May.
The group hit the ground running with a fast-paced dance session, led by Zimbabwean artists Bawren Tavaziva and Mbira player and drummer Miles Ncube. Choreography is with RAD’s Step in to Dance programme leader Michael Joseph and music creations and recording tracks is with Monica Dhinn.
Today has been a day for everyone to find themselves in the space and work with Bawren, Miles, Monica and me. They have created some great choreography and already started working as a team. Such a great group of creative young people. I can’t wait for more tomorrow!
Michael Joseph, Project Leader
It was fun, it was creative and it felt like a journey. Monica and Michael were brilliant and we have so much fun and I’m really excited about tomorrow already!
Funding from Linden Homes, led by Enable Leisure & Sport in partnership with Wandsworth Council. Part of Wandsworth Arts Fringe.
