Bawren Tavaziva received a Lisa Ullmann Travel Scholarship Fund grant in 2022 – 2023 to enable him to travel to Zimbabwe, his first visit to his homeland for 15 years.
While in Zimbabwe, Bawren collaborated with the acclaimed performing arts organisation AfriKera Arts Trust to run a three-week dance workshop with 30 young people in Harare, exploring Tavaziva’s dance aesthetic, combining ballet, contemporary and African dance, the beginning of what Bawren hopes will be a long-term partnership enabling him to spend longer periods teaching and working in Zimbabwe.
