Devaraj Thimmaiah

Devaraj trained in India. He worked under  Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts banner whilst also choreographing his own work. His commercial work in India includes appearances for fashion designers, Bollywood singers and local and national satellite TV. Devaraj joined Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company in 2003 for Transtep including choreography by Lisa Torun, Fillip Van Huffel and Rashpal Singh Bansal. Since then he performed in eight productions touring nationally and internationally. He also danced with SJDC for several major dance festivals in UK, Asia and Europe and collaboration with City Contemporary Dance (Hong Kong) in 2006. Most recently in 2012 he worked with SJDC as a rehearsal director for Too Mortal and Configuration double billed with Dev Kaha Hai? Devaraj joined Tavaziva Dance in December 2009 for company’s first full-length production wild dog. In 2010 he worked with Russell Maliphant for a US cinema commercial advert and with Lloyd Newson during the creation period of Can We Talk About This? His new choreographic work ‘Arranged Marriage’ was premiered at The Place 25th January 2011 and following performed at the Royal Opera House for Exposure Dance and Cloud Dance festival in london. In 2012 he worked with Akram Khan for the Olympic opening ceremony.
