Journeying Between – Youth Summer Intensive 2018

Tavaziva is teaming up with the Royal Academy of Dance, Caius House and award winning photographer Jevan Chowdhury to bring you an exciting youth dance and music production project.

JOURNEYING BETWEEN is led by Bawren Tavaziva and Royal Academy of Dance’s Step into Dance Programme Company Leader Michael Joseph. You will work together to create original music and choreography for a performance at Caius House. As well as capturing your choreography in an outdoor photography shoot with award winning photographer and film maker Jevan Chowdhury.

The project will take place in the music recording suite and dance studio at Caius House Youth Centre.

Week 1: Create the Journeying Between musical soundscape – 1pm-4pm, 13-17 August

Bawren is a percussionist and creates music and soundscapes for Tavaziva’s professional productions. You will have 5 afternoons to create an original piece of music. If you play an instrument, sing, beat-box, rap or are keen to learn, you are welcome to join week 1.

Week 2: Create the Journeying Between choreography – 10am-4pm, 20-24 August

Bawren will teach you his trademark fusion of African contemporary dance and will work with you to choreograph a performance using the musical soundscape from week 1. If you are passionate about dance, and are excited and confident to perform, you are welcome to join week 2.

Photography Shoot with Jevan Chowdhury

Also in week 2, you will be in a film and photography shoot with award-winning photographer Jevan Chowdhury. The photo shoot will journey along the riverfront from Tavaziva HQ to RAD HQ and will capture your choreography. The photographs will form part of an exhibition in Wandsworth in October and you will have access to your own pictures!

Performance – Friday 24 August

On the last day of the project, you will be performing at Caius House to an audience of friends, family and invited guests.

Wandsworth based companies Tavaziva, Royal Academy of Dance and Caius House join forces to invite talented young people to take part in this very special creative project.
